Elon Musk’s New AI Chatbot Grok Joins the Fray for Premium+ Users of X

In a bold move that’s caught the attention of social media enthusiasts and tech buffs alike, xAI — a company launched by none other than tech magnate Elon Musk — has released its own version of a conversational AI called Grok. The new AI chatbot, which is now available to Premium+ users of X (formerly known as Twitter), stands out with its distinct personality that’s both rebellious and sarcastic, setting it apart from its more restrained counterpart, OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Elon Musk has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with what he perceives as the “political correctness” of current AI models, including ChatGPT. Grok is his answer to that, promising to engage users with a “rebellious streak,” even willing to entertain “spicy” questions that other AIs might sidestep. This new arrival is said to reflect Musk’s own unorthodox approach to technology and social media.

Grok’s release was heralded by a post on the X platform, wherein an employee’s interaction with the AI showcased its no-holds-barred humor. The chatbot’s programming allows it to pull real-time information from X, offering it a significant edge in responsiveness and relevance compared to other models.

To gain access to Grok, users must subscribe to the Premium+ tier on X. Once subscribed, they can find Grok nestled conveniently between the “Messages” and “Lists” icons on the X homepage sidebar. From there, users can choose between two modes: “Regular Mode” for straightforward responses and “Fun Mode” for answers with a humorous twist. Grok is versatile enough to handle a variety of tasks, from drafting emails to generating fitness plans, all while explaining complex concepts in simple terms.

xAI has already amassed nearly $135 million in equity financing and aims to secure up to $1 billion for further development. With Grok, Musk’s xAI not only enters the competitive space of conversational AIs but also shakes up the industry with a chatbot that’s not afraid to push the envelope.

The dual nature of Grok offers a glimpse into what the future of AI might hold — a blend of functionality and personality that can cater to both professional and playful interactions. As 2023 winds down, Grok seems poised to make a significant impact in the sphere of AI-driven communication and online interaction.
